Ostrich (Struthio camelus)

So who does not know this one? Fairly common in South Africa, seen on many farms, and nearly all reserves. Males are black with dirty white wing and tail feathers, while females are grey-brown.

4-DSC_0122Males usually have more than one female, all breeding in one nest, but only dominant male and female brood on them.

A funny moment came with my wife seeing the food going down the throat, and we laughed so much I forgot to take more picture, but I got 2 shots.

5-DSC_00606-DSC_0067You see the food in above pic just on its way. You can follow it going down, down…"Grosss!", my wife yelled, with an appropriate skewed face, as to say to the ostrich to have better manners and take smaller bites. Even the common ostrich can cause a stir in our house!
